I feel sooo sick, im actually shaking right now. I have just lost about $13,000 in 5 hours, almost all of the profit i have earned in Jan and Feb. The most i have ever lost in one night before is $2k what the fuck am i doing, i feel horrible, i feel dazed. FUCK! Im such a TWAT!!
I started playing my usual $1/2 tables and after about one hour i was stuck $1.1k, which is a fucking lot at them poxy limits. I was proper pissed off, been really struggling recently. I felt like i hadn't done much wrong and yet boooom bye bye to $1.1k. So, i decided to play $2/4 on FTP and ended up 4 tabling. I've done this before in the past and have been quite successful. This time i managed to jizz off all my FTP roll, about $4k ish. The beats i got were unreeeel, shocking, i was stunned. Fuck me i wished i had just stopped then but i didnt, i need the money as this month has been a shocker and paying off part of my mortgage has fucked me abit financially.
I still had 'loadsa' dosh on PP so i returned to play nl $5/10 a limit which i have only previuosly played on on about 5 occasions winning a few grand. I played on two tables and lost 4 buyins in about 2 hrs. One of the buyins was sick. I flopped top set only to see some slutpig stick me in with a gutshot and off course the cock sucker hit on the river. CUNT CUNT CUNT!!!
In desperation i played one table of 10/20 a limit which i have never played before. I started ok and got upto about $3.4K before that slowly disappeared. I went down to $800 and reloaded when this happened. I know my pre-flop raise was huge but i'd been getting big pairs cracked all day. WTF is this bastard calling me with K9 for???? The cunt flops two pairs and i lose almost $2k the most i have ever lost in one pot by miles. I also brought into about 5-6 tournaments ranging between $33 upto $109. More siiikness in them as per usual.
I really don't know what to do with my life right now, im in limbo, I might have to get a job. I think i have to accept that although i still believe im good enough to make a decent profit from poker im not cut out to play it on a full time basis. Its affected my health both phyiscal and more mental and its affected my social life. I don't think i'll be updating this blog in the near future, i need to get my head straight, im really depressed right now.

I don't agree with the above comment regarding the AA hand being an easy fold post flop. There is little value in calling K9 against what is clearly a premium holding, so putting the villain on 2 pair post-flop is not going to be very high on the ladder of possible holdings, given the board texture. It also depends on the other guy's table image which would help assertain how much of a maniac he is with his calling sizeable raises.
A set of 9's or Kings is much more likely, throwing AK/KQ into the mix as well. K9 is a joke of a call for a little more than 10% of a buy-in preflop. (insert implied-odds argument here so I can laugh at anyone who does)
I read several posts of your blog, it sounds like you can pull back the $13k easily, judging from your past efforts. For what its worth, I took a real job too, just to make sure that things like this didn't send me over the edge and bills were getting at least partly paid ;)
I try to think of the terrible beats as the equivalent of the inland revenue robbing my wages so the doleys can continue their incapacity benefit of "depression" or "backache that can't be proved". In any case, bad beats to me feel like a form of tax.

Do what you think you need to do mate. If you think you are capable of winning it back at poker then take a few days off to clear your head. Read that Poker Mindset book that everyone keeps going on about and come back with a better state of mind.
If your confidence has taken too much of a battering then get a job to pay the bills, deposit a smaller roll and grind at the $0.25/$0.50 tables until you get your confidence back.
We all know you are capable and have seen you do it before.

i agree with the last post, you can make it all back but you do lack structure.
take a break for a week, hit the gym, get a ho and plan a month of playing out. stop loses, hands or hours a day, max time at the table, all that jazz that will give you structure and focus you, defining what is poke time and what is free time. if you can try that out for one month i reckon you'll rock the game hard.
no matter what anyone says, being a poker pro is your job, you are self employed, as in your job needs to pay your bills, give you a roof and pay for your food. you gotta get the mindset that that is why you play and you need to play in a way that reflects that.

Unlucky son, the tilt monster gets the best of all of us at some point or other. Take a break and regroup, why not consider getting a part time job so at least you know you have money coming in on a regular basis? It will also get you out of bed, in some sort of routine and interacting with people which can be important when you dont actually need to leave the house. Something like working Tuesday to Thursday or just mornings or something would be sweet. Then you could play poker in your spare time and not feel the need to make money or not be able to pay bills etc, it might see your results turn around because you take a more relaxed approach. Sorry for ranting, good luck in rebuilding.

Sorry to read about what happened, but this is classic fish behaviour (playing above your normal limits to recoup losses). You need to take a couple off then get back to your normal game, and grind it until you're back on track. Discipline is huge, you must get better at it and neve try to jump up to recoup losses again. 1 losing session/week/month is nothing in the long run. GL with your comeback.
Unreal, feel for you mate. Have a week off, go out get pissed, get laid and get your head back together.
Read back through your blog and see how much money you make when you're playing your A-game

I agree with Simon, Bad beat will help you with the discipline, confidence and the mentoring will help you back to your A-game. The worst problem you have is that doing this for a living means that you when you are losing it is a double whammy. If you have the security of badbeat then that fear goes away whci I presume is why you were chasing the losses.
Keep your chin up, it will all start coming back if you wipe the slate clean and forget about the losses.
Don't forget a lot of your roll is in the house now so you will always have something to show for it.

Completely stupid thing to do and yes, you should be beating yourself up over it because you've got to learn not to do it again. But after you've calmed down, you can look at it this way - financially you've been put back a few months. Just a few months. In the scheme of things it's not that bad as long as you can regain focus and start beating the 1/2 games soon. My guess is that you'll start playing on the bad beat roll for a bit? Funny thing is, I wouldn't roll you $2k a day after this tilt session! It's impressive that those bad beat guys make a profit at all!

hey amatay, you know great character is formed in times of adversity. This is your chance to make a fresh start and take your game to levels you have never dreamed off before. Take this loss as a wakeup call and learn from it.
I once read a blog entry by Daniel Nugraneau who said that his role took a battering a few years back and his mates set him a challenge to play at low stakes again. this resulted in him turning his 2k bankroll into over 20k in 2 weeks through being disciplind and putting the hours in. So its the 1st of April. Lets say you took the challenge of earning 500 bucks a day by 20 days - you could hit 10k by the end of the month and absorb that loss. Then start May like a new month and put this episode behind you.

This is a farking April fool right??? Surely the discipline you have shown all of the past didn't just disappear over night? This is what turned me from a cash player to a tournament player, because I lack that discipline. Not that I would recommend playign tournies for a living, it is stressful as fuck and you only get paid once in a while.
As all of the other fishees have said, take a break, regroup and get back to what you do well. NEVER leave you rolls in online accounts, always draw out to your daily stop loss and put it into a separate bank account. When you have a bad day, you can never tilt off the whole lot then. This also has a motivating effect, as it is much more painful to deposit than lose funds already in your online account.
Really hope you recover mate, work sucks, poker rules, you are a winner.

Sorry to hear about your tilt and fair play to you for being so honest about it in your blog - I'm sure many wouldn't.
I've been reading your blog for a bit and I was always amazed about how high your winrate was. You're a good player, no doubt about it, but you were also running good IMO, so a couple of weeks downswing was no reason for tilting off your roll, but I know it's easy to say that now.
Tilt /downswings are hard to handle, I've been there, but on a much smaller scale. You should definitely take a break and use it to forget the $13k loss. Write it off in your mind as a bad debt, otherwise when you play again, you will subconsciously be trying to chase your loss and you won't be playing well. Oh and read the first couple of chapters of Sklansky's Theory of Poker. It's excellent for understanding the "long-run".
